Ship Functions

In the Star Trek universe, many ships are equipped with energy shields to protect from weapons fire, radiation, cosmic rays etc. In STNE most ships and stations have rechargeable shield emitters on board, while planets can have a Shield Tower built on the surface to protect buildings. Shields are used to protect from weapons fire, prevent beaming operations and protect the crew from radiation emanating from dangerous anomalies like a neutron star. While shields are raised only the owner can beam goods to and from the ship.

Shield Activation

The amount of energy the shields require to activate is dependent on the amount of slots the ship uses. It can be calculated using the formula:

Energy Required = 1 + ((Slots-1)/2)

So for example an Iowa being 25 slots would require 13 energy to activate the shields as 1+((25-1)/2)=13

Activating the shields causes a battletick

Shield Strength

Shield strength refers to how much damage the shields can intercept before becoming depleted, while the only way for the enemy to directly attack the hull while shields are raised is to use polaron torpedoes, some of the weapons fire can pass through the shields, this is called bleedthrough.

Charging

If shields are damaged or depleted the will automatically recharge if the ship has enough fuel and crew. The time taken to recharge is doubled if shields are raised and halved if the ship is within a metaphasic nebula.
