Shield towers generate a shield around their surrounding buildings. The shield must be charged before use.

When at maximum strength the shield generated by the tower can withstand 3000 damage - 1000 Plasma is required to charge the shield to this level meaning each unit of plasma charges the shield by 3 units.

The coverage of the shield is limited to the buildings adjacent to it. The shield does not protect against Polaron Explosions.

Shield Tower Function

In the following image each individual shield tower protects the green fields around it. The red fields are where the shield towers overlap, in this situation only ONE shield tower will protect them. If the shield protecting the red fields collapses, the second shield tower does not come into affect for those fields until after the next tick - leaving the fields unprotected for the remainder of the tick. It is not known how the tower which protects the overlapping fields is selected.

When Shield Towers are positioned at the edge of a colony, they protect fields on the opposite edge, for example, a shield tower at the top field of a colony will protect three fields at the bottom of the colony. The illustration below of a planet and orbit should help with understanding this:

Note: In this illustration the main part of the colony is 10x6 fields, rather than 10x5. This is only done for reasons of clarity.

As you can see a shield tower at the edge of the colony overlaps with the opposite side, but orbit is completely ignored.

  • The shield towers in the middle of the colony - remain normal.
  • The shield tower in the left margin of the colony - overlaps to the right side
  • The shield tower at the top of the colony - overlaps to the bottom, ignoring orbit.
  • The shield tower at the bottom of the colony - overlaps to the top, ignoring orbit.
  • The shield tower in the corner of the colony - overlaps to the corresponding edges, ignoring orbit

Note: Space Fields on Asteroids can be protected by shield towers provided they are not in the 2x10 orbit section
