Ship Functions

The warp nacelles of every ship leave invisible trails in space. These traces disintegrate within 5 days and until then can only be tracked by special ships such as the Patrol Ship, Kizak and Lapsus. It is possible for possible for every settler to make these traces visible in the LRS display and thus build up their own efficient surveillance network.

Listening Post

The Listening Post is a station that can monitor an enormous area thanks to its 7 LRS Range (8 if built during the Christmas Period with Tritanium Kit). It has two docking ports and can therefore ensure energy free transport between two ships in the same sector. The station serves as an ideal replacement for a Mobile Docking Station in a Dense Deuterium Nebula since its LRS and SRS sensors function without restriction even in a nebula.

The station needs 5 crew members to ensure everything runs smoothly, the stations warp core can supply it for months before it needs refueling.

The sensors for detecting warp signatures are so extensive there is no additional space for weapons placements.

The listening post is built using a Tug and can be upgraded to an Outpost which boasts an additional 2 LRS range and defenses while maintaining subspace tracking capabilities. The downside of Outposts is that they use 5 slots as opposed to the 1.5 the listening post uses.

To build a listening post Subspace Listening Post Construction research must be completed

Patrol Ship

The Patrol Ship is the mobile variant of the Listening Post, however its 5 LRS range is not quite as powerful. Patrol ships have the major benefit of being able to follow a warp track and even have some defense weapons.

The ship needs 10 crew members to run smoothly and an additional 10 can come onboard if needed. Thanks to its size and enhanced combat capabilities patrol ships require 2 slots.

To build a patrol ship Patrol Vessel Construction research must be completed.

The Elstar also has subspace tracking abilities and there are a variety of NPC patrol ships sold on the Christmas Auctions each year which have different properties, for example the 2016 version of the Ed'Brog has 100 flight range, compared to a normal patrol ships 55.
