Crew are necessary for almost all operations on almost all vessel. Crew can be transported from other vessel or from the unemployed worker pool on a colony. Differing numbers of crew bellow the particular vessel ordinary operating levels will have differing adverse effects from simply lowering Efficiency to being unable to preform task such as firing weapons, raising shields, docking, fight, transport, etc. It is therefore recommended to keep a ship crewed at standard or higher levels.
Different spacial anomalies as well as a lack of food will cause crew to abandon their vessel.
