Upon installation Hologram Items (abbr. Holo Item or just Holo) change the ship image. Some of them can be deactivated and reactivated at will but almost all of them cannot be removed from the ship after activation. Unlike 
Reskins they change the appearance of the ship completely and are not based upon the image of a settler ship.

The original Holo Items were mainly designed to give players the opportunity to camoflage their settler ships as NPC ships - to make for example, a battleship of the Iowa-class battleship to battleship Sovereign class or to a Vidiian frigate. In addition to changing the ship image most holo items also change the displayed ship class. Over time the range of holo items has been significantly expanded and many of the new holo items might find their way into player hands. While some holo items are available as drops from destroyed Syndicat ships, many other are only available through role play actions and as rewards or profits from events.
