The construction of a base camp is the first step in the process of colonising a standard, moderate or water planet. Base Camps are built from orbit using a colonisation ship (usually a DY-500), the ship must have the 20 plasteel required to build the base camp or a Colonisation Set module. For more information on the colonisation process see Colonization.

The Base Camp provides for the basic technical and civilian needs of your colony such as housing for 5 residents along with some food production, 5 EPS tanks for energy storage a transporter room to allow beaming goods to and from the colony, a small amount of energy production, limited storage capacity and Beam Protection Points to stop raiders.

Base camps can be upgraded to a Colony Headquarters for an additional 20 plasteel, these are harder to destroy, and provide 5 additional living space along with increasing Beam Protection Points, EPS Tanks and Attractiveness.

Note: The Base Camp can only be built on grassland fields in standard, moderate and water planets. Only one base camp may exist on each colony.
