Beaming (or transporting) describes the process of moving goods, crew, energy, or warp fuel from one ship to another, or from a colony to a ship (or vice versa) by a process of dematerialising the item from one location and then rematerialising it in another, for beaming energy is necessary, however if the ship is docked to the ship it is transporting from, or when transporting from a colony with a Space Elevator, transporting has no energy cost.

Beaming with Ships

You can beam goods from your ship to any other ships or planets if your ship meets the following criteria:

The number of goods you can transfer from or to the ship per unit of energy is dependant on the ships beam capacity. For example if 45 plasteel was being beamed by an AntaresB class ship (which has 30 beam capacity) it would cost 1.5 energy to do so, and would also deplete the EPS by 1.5. It is not possible to beam crew, escape pods or user bound items to foreign ships, regardless of whether they are in you alliance, have a trade agreement with you, or even if they have copilot of your ship. Torpedoes can also only be beamed by the owner, regardless of what treaties the other player has with you.

Ship to ship beaming

If you want to beam goods to another ship, you need to be in the same sector and orbit as the ship you want to beam to, with the main computer fully active (not offline or standby). On the SRS next to the ship you wish to beam goods to there should be two symbols, one to beam goods to the ship, and one to beam goods from the ship (it will tell you which is which when you hover your mouse over them).

Ship to Colony Beaming

When beaming to colonies the ship must be in orbit of the corresponding colony. The beam console is next to the planet view.

Beaming with colonies

Colonies are capable of beaming goods to ships in orbit, using either the Base Camp, Colony Headquarters, or Headquarters. To do this at least two people are required as well as sufficient energy. Colonies have a beam capacity of 20. Because several ships may be in orbit, you must first select the ship you want to beam goods to, before selecting the cargo to beam.

Beam Protection

BPPMenu.png

Not all transport in STNE is done by mutual consent (theft, piracy etc.) Therefore there are some ways to protect you goods from being stolen, this can either be by raiding shields on a ship, or by setting beam protection points on a colony.

On a Ship

Goods on a ship can only be protected on a ship by raising shields. However although this stops beaming the shields on most transports are not strong enough to withstand one or two torpedoes so the shields can easily be disabled and the goods can still be stolen. Since activated shields cost 1 energy per tick, it is often recommended not to leave shields active but rather to leave your ship on yellow alert so that if anyone outside of your alliance and without a trade agreement beams goods from the ship the shields will automatically be raised. Should any further attempts be made to steal goods your ship with fire upon the raiding vessel, provided that:

Note: Activation of the shields only occurs after the first beam operation

On Colonies

On colonies beam protection can be set from your Colony Headquarters (or Base Camp or Headquarters). To distribute the points click on your Headquarters and select beam protection points, from there a menu should be displayed which can then be used to set beam protection points for each good. Then click save and the Beam Protection Points will be set.

Normally the Beam Protection capacity on colonies is approximately 50% of the total storage space, but it depends on what buildings you use for storage. Beam protection capacity is increased by building beam blockers, storage compounds, tunnel systems or subsurface storage facilities.

Beaming Larne

The Larne currency can be transferred like any other goods from ship to ship or colonies, but there are peculiarities to be observed. 1000 larne always costs 1 unit of energy, regardless of the transporter capacity of the ship or colony.

Note: Larne on colonies cannot be secured by Beam Protection. It is therefore recommended that you store larne on ships with a large shield strength.
