Introduced in 2015, the Gate Trade Network (sometimes referred to as the GTN, Gate Trade Exchange or GTE) is an alternative option to the Ferengi Trade Exchange. It allows trading directly between settlers through the use of subspace gates. The following ships and stations have access to the gate trade network and any ships with the correct permissions can use access the network through these:

  • Small Subspace Gates - Jump and Trading Portal
  • Large Subspace Gates - Jump and Trading Portal
  • Atria - Trading Portal
  • Trade Base - Trading Portal
  • Some Christmas Auction trade bases - if these are able to access the GTN they will have Trading Portal (2401) visible under special functions

The GTN has a number of advantages over the Ferengi Trade Exchange:

  • No taxes to deposit goods before trading
  • Torpedoes can be traded
  • Items can be traded
  • A credit fee is not charged for offering/demanding credits

However there are also some disadvantages:

  • A gate, trade base or atria is required - for most players this is not an issue but new players must rely on FTE or alliance gates until completing gate or trade base research. Also if fueling or depositing raided goods while moving through neutral or enemy territory the Ferengi Account may be more useful as it is available at every supply station.
  • To trade in credits they must be withdrawn from your account, this is taxed. Putting credits back into your account is also taxed as it must go through your Ferengi Account.
  • Credits when withdrawn from your account to trade with can be raided.
  • Deflector is used - This will use warpcore to recharge the deflector, also the deflector recharge rate may be insufficient if you wish to trade larger quantities of high value goods in a short space of time.

Trading on the Gate Trade Network uses Deflector, the amount varies depending on the quantity of goods, the type of goods and the distance. The table below shows the costs for 1000 of each good per 100 sectors:
