Battle Ticks are fundamental part of the Combat System within STNE - for any combat to take place a battle tick must be initiated. Each battle tick consists of an action triggering the battle tick, and the subsequent reaction (if any) of other ships in the sector. Battle ticks are indicated within logs by the symbol.
Triggering a Battle Tick
Battle ticks are triggered by the actions of a ship or fleet. The following situations will trigger a battletick:
- Entering a sector or orbit (unless the ship is a probe or has a Cloaking Device active)
- Raising Shields
- Docking/Undocking
- Activating the Main Computer
- Activating the Weapons Systems
- Beaming goods from a ship
- Activating a System Blockade
- Activating a Tractor Beam
- Using the Recall command on a carrier ship to recall all fighters
- Any offensive action (firing weapons on a ship or planet)
These actions will always initiate a battle tick, however, depending on the diplomatic relationship and alert condition of other ships in the sector, there may not be a response.
Battle Tick Response
Whether there is a response depends upon the alert condition of other ships in the sector, and the diplomatic relationship of the owners of those ships towards the player who triggered the Battle Tick. Possible responses include:
- Undocking
- Raising Shields
- A Hanger Alert causing ships within a hanger to be deployed
- Defensive Weapons Fire
