Starmap Legend |
Open space makes up the majority of fields on the ingame map, it has no special properties and is just lots of vacuum. Because of its vast emptiness it is also the only sector in which large gates and prototype shipyards can be built.
Void
Void fields are a special form of space field. On the ingame map the large empty areas between the settler areas are referred to as Void Space or Free Space. In order to fly through these spaces settlers must first research Deep Space Navigation. After completing this research it is possible for any ship to fly into the void, however it costs 2 Flight Cost and 2 Flight Range for each sector a ship travels in void space. In core areas of the void (referred to ingame as Free Space (distorted)) it costs 3 Flight Cost and 3 Flight Range for each sector traveled. Void fields look very similar to normal space fields with only a lighter white frame indicating that they are part of void space.

Players participating in Light Speed Races do not need Deep Space Navigation research to enter the void.
