Large Asteroid Fields are one of three types of asteroid field that can be colonized. They are ideally suited to Duranium production, but can produce 5 Dilithium per tick self-sufficiently as well. However a Small Asteroid Field (Class-D) is better suited towards this as it produces 6 Dilithium per tick. Because of this, large asteroid fields are used as storage colonies or duranium colonies more often.
