A Phaser Cannon (also called a "Noob Canon") is an essential part of your colony's defense. Each empire can only build a single phaser cannon, and it can only be built on a regular, Class-M planet.
If your colony is attacked, fire your phaser cannon back at the attacking ship(s). The energy it requires will usually be taken from its own fusion chamber. If it has no energy onboard, it will attempt to take what it requires from the colony's EPS reserve. Phaser cannon's fire a salvo of 50 rounds, with each round causing either 35 damage to shields or 25 to a ships hull.
Each phaser cannon round uses 2 energy units. Thus, a full salvo requires 100 energy units. A phaser cannon's fusion chamber can be reloaded by selecting the phaser cannon's "Emergency Fusion Chamber" option from its drop-down menu. Up to 100 units of Deuterium can be injected into its chamber in this manner.
