Farms are the cheapest and simplest food production building. Farms can be built on any grassland field for only 5 plasteel each and produce 2 food per tick. The productivity can be improved to 3 food per tick using a Weather Control Station. Farms also contain rooms for the workers to spend the night.
Farms are generally preferable to algae farms due to the fact they provide living space for their workers and cost slightly less. However in most cases advanced colonists use hydroponic domes rather than farms although due to their low energy cost and the fact they provide living space there are still some situations in which well designed colonies make use of farms.
