A Polaron power plant makes 60 energy per Tick by taking advantage of Polaron radiation. However each Tick there is also a 0.2% chance that the Polaron power plant exploded. In all eight Buildings around the damaged power plant will take 60 damage points and all 16 Buildings within a radius of 2 fields at the power plant will take 30 damage points.

If a Polaron power plant exploded, the colony will become "unsettled" for 35 ticks, regardless of where that building stood. The resulting Polaron cloud loses 1 strength every tick. After a week (35 ticks), the colony will re-colonized. Furthermore, all the crew flees from ships in orbit, if the shields are not enabled.

Since the famous accident on the Romulan research base Chaltok IV Polaron power plant are outlawed. They are extremely dangerous and the explosion can damage Subspace. Unfortunately, the use of this power plant type in the population is due to the associated risks are not very popular, leading to a loss of 20 internal Reputation per tick.
