In STNE the Alert condition of a vessel or colony affects its combat readiness. There are three possible alert levels Green, Yellow and Red.

At the highest alert condition - Red - Ships and colonies react automatically on any Neutral or Enemy Vessels entering the system. A battle tick will immediately be created by the ship entering the system and the vessel will first undock and raise its shield or if it's shields are already raised it will fire automatically.

At alert condition Yellow ships and colonies do not automatically fire at neutral ships but hostile actions or beaming without a trading agreement causes a defensive reaction.

Any ships or colonies at alert condition Green act passively whatever happens.
