The Energy Surplus Levy is a special function of the Particle Accelerator and Dual Particle Accelerator.

If the accelerator is switched off and there are two unemployed residents on the planet then it can collect surplus energy produced which can no longer be stored in the EPS and convert it into antimatter.

As soon as 10 energy has been accumulated the accelerator will produce 1 Antimatter. A dual accelerator can thus collect a surplus of up to 20 energy and produce 2 Antimatter from it, with 1 antimatter being produced after 10 energy has been collected.

You can check the level of the particle accelerator by clicking on the building and then Energy Surplus Levy, there you will see the following

Workers Ready

  • energie.gif stands for 1 unit of energy which is currently stored in the accelerator.
  • tick.gif stands for 1 unit of energy which will be stored in the accelerator next tick
  • max.gif stands for 1 unit of energy which could potentially be stored in the accelerator but will not be stored next tick.

It is unfortunately not possible to retain energy above what the accelerator can store for another round, for example if you have a particle accelerator which has 8 energy stored, and 4 will be added the next tick, then the accelerator will collect the 10 needed to produce 1 Antimatter and the remaining 2 would be lost. In this scenario this could be solved by upgrading to a dual particle accelerator, however in some cases it may be necessary to have 2 accelerators offline each with 2 workers available to ensure all possible energy is captured.
