Introduction
Flagships are colossal testaments to a player's strength. They can provide an immense boost to a player's military, economy, or a combination of the two. There are three types of colonist flagships: the Iowa, the Elstar, and the Atria; all of these stupefying ships take up twenty-five slots. As of June the twelfth, 2012, there were 247 Iowas, 70 Atrias, and 32 Elstars in the galaxy. The Iowa is the clear favorite, simply due to its stunning weapons array. All three flagships, however, have their own unique uses. The Iowa is, as previously mentioned, a vessel designed for war; its primary use is combat. The Elstar is probably the most diverse flagship; it suits many roles well, from fleet support to combat. However, it does not do anything exceptionally well, which is why it is the least popular flagship. The Atria is an economical marvel. It can collect 1800 iridium ore and 9000 deuterium per day; enough to fuel most players colonies, and then some. Each player has his or her favourite flagship, based on their playing style.
Research
The cost of building a flagship is only half the battle; getting the required research is also extraordinary expensive. The following is a break-down of how much it costs to research a flagship:
- Warp Field Theory: 60 Isolinear Chips;
- Orbital Complex Structures: 260 isolinear chips;
- Adv. Orbital Construction: 120 isolinear chips;
- Orbital Construction: 40 isolinear chips;
- Flagship Construction: 2500 isolinear chips;
- Warp Field Stabilization: 300 isolinear chips;
- Disruptor Weapon Development: 300 isolinear chips;
- Plasma Convertor Construction: 180 isolinear chips;
- Iowa/Atria/Elstar Construction: 1500 isolinear chips.
- Total: 5260 isolinear chips.
Additional Notes
It is highly recommended that quantum torpedoes be used on Iowas and Elstars, and plasma torpedoes be used on Atrias. This is to ensure that each flagship does the most damage possible in a fight; you would not want to waste approximately ten bars of latinum on a flagship that is destroyed because you didn't spend a bit on torpedoes!
