-A space station is precisely what it implies--a station, in space.  All stations, with the exception of the [[Prototype Shipyard]], can be built in any sector of the galaxy, including in lower orbit of a [[colony]].  The NX-shipyard can only be built in sectors of space that do not have an existing space station, and cannot be built in lower orbit of a colony.
