New page

Ship-Properties-Menu
Beam Capacity describes how many goods a ship can transport using its transporter systems for each unit of energy spent.

In simple terms, a higher beam capacity means a ship can move the same amount of goods using less energy.

The energy cost can be calculated using the following formula:

Energy used = Goods transported ÷ Beam Capacity

For example, to beam 300 units of goods from a colony:

*An Oberth class exploration ship with a beam capacity of 10 would use 30 energy.
*A DY-500 class colonisation ship with a beam capacity of 20 would use 15 energy.
*An AntaresB class cargo ship with a beam capacity of 30 would use only 10 energy.

Beam Capacity is also important during raiding. If a ship is on yellow alert and its shields are down, an attacking ship can beam up to its full beam capacity before the target’s shields are raised.

Because of their higher beam capacity, cargo ships are generally much more energy efficient at transporting goods than science or combat vessels.
