The Vidiians are a technologically advanced species from the Delta Quadrant whose existence is defined by a disease, the phage.

Contents

General

Vidiians are humanoids and have (at least) two genders. In the healthy state, her forehead is divided by a light crest of the skull, otherwise her appearance is not very noticeable. However due to the consequences of the phage there are very few, if any Vidiians who are lucky to live in this natural state.

As a result of the phage, a normal life of the Vidiian people is hardly possible. Public gatherings are prohibited for quarantine reasons. Artists like Motura, for example, can no longer pursue their work because they are constantly looking for organs that are essential for survival. In Vidiian society there are some people called Honatta, whose only job is to get these organs for other Vidiians. The technology of the Vidiians is highly developed, but how most areas of their lives are completely influenced by the phage and is therefore particularly concentrated in the medical field.

Their weapon systems and the shields of their spaceships are also highly developed. Of particular interest are the hand weapons they use, which are not designed to kill the target, but to "harvest" it. You first numb the target and then use the sophisticated integrated sensors to analyze the important organs of the person you hit. Useful organs can then be beamed out of the body immediately using an integrated transporter, the entire process takes only a few fractions of a second.

The Vidiians are also one of the few known species able to process neutronium and use it in alloys. In addition, the Vidiians try to replace parts of the destroyed organs with artificial organs, but are not completely successful.

The Phage

The "phage" is an epidemic-like disease that has apparently affected the entire Vidiian people and literally affects the body of the sick. Most Vidiians, especially the Honattas, are constantly on the lookout for new organs that can replace the old ones and extend their lives by a few weeks or months before they are infected by the phage.

The Vidiians call the removal of the organs "harvesting" and use bodies wherever possible, but also accept the death of living "organ donors".

Cure?

Rumor has it that experiments with Klingon DNA and the help of a community called the "think tank" have a cure for the phage.

However, these are just rumors. So far, no confirmation has been received.

Role in STNE

Within STNE the Vidiians fly around in very large fleets searching for members of foreign species to use as organ donors. Vidiian ships are ready to fire at any time and will beam crew from foreign ships if the shields are down.

A ship that steals from or shoots the vidiians will cause an immediate attack by the fleet and a declaration of war by Vidiians (NPC) for 35 ticks. Communication with them causes senseless answers - they are just a program script. A transmission to them can also lead to an immediate declaration of war by them and should be avoided. If your ship behaves passively and its shields are activated, nothing happens when a Vidiian fleet enters. If you are at war with the Vidiians and fly into their fleet, they will of course attack immediately.

Vidiian fleets on a route covered with "autopilot" or with "warp factor" interrupt the flight and steal the crew from the ship if no shields are activated and there is a war.

In addition, Vidiians are not affected by radioactive nebulae (possibly not by neutron stars and other anomalies) and do not lose any crew even with shields deactivated.

Vidiian Ships

There are three main types of Vidiian Ships, A, B and C. Further classes of Vidiian ships are known to exist, however these are not seen flying around the galaxy.

Tips

  • Make sure you have a significant military fleet before attacking vidiians, unlike the Orion Syndicate and Vadwaur vidiian fleets can fire back with enough power to easily destroy ships if you are not careful. Generally a minimum of 20 slots military is recommended for smaller vidiian fleets.
  • Don't use a carrier/fighter fleet, the Vidiians will steal all the crew from the fighters. (A carrier/dumpi fleet might work)
  • If you are already at war with Vidiians work out which direction the fleet is travelling (by watching it) in and move your fleet to the sector next to it, this avoids the entry battle tick as the vidiians enter your sector rather than the other way around.
  • If one of your ships is close to loosing, or has lost shields withdraw it from the battle immediately to avoid the crew being stolen.
  • Use plan attack
  • If you are planning on destroying the whole fleet set to disable schildbrecher.gif. This allows you to raid all the goods on the ships (if the ships are destroyed half the goods are destroyed) and also with larger fleets allows your entire fleet to continue firing for longer - the battle system only allows 1.2x the defending slots to attack (min 20 slots), by disabling, the entire fleet is still classed as defensive slots.
  • Avoid using torpedoes - they're probably worth more than anything you'll gain from killing the vidiian ships - use energy weapons (or if you are using torpedoes use plasmas, not quantums)
  • If you scan a fleet with a probe and find all ships have their shields down, one strategy is to wait for them to enter your sector and fire to destroy for a single battletick, the ships will respond by raising shields. Wait for the surviving ships to leave the sector and then send in extraction ships to collect the duranium from any ships you've destroyed. This allows you to gain without taking a single shot of return fire.
  • Make sure you have enough extraction ships to extract all the wrecks, larger fleets can need thousands of energy units to extract (for thousands of duranium) - an atria or other large ship with an extraction item is extremely useful to extract larger fleets.

Boxes and Decoding Chips

Vidiian ship wrecks may contain boxes and decoding chips. Boxes are found with a probability (drop rate) of 10%, i.e. every tenth ship has a bpx. Decoding chips have a drop rate of 0.5% i.e. every two hundredth ship contains a decoding chip. Vidiian wrecks also sometimes contain Talaxian Freight Containers
